The Power Wall
The AI Build-Out Has a Power Problem. The Power Problem Has a Blind Spot. Sixty percent of U.S. data centers are one failed cell away from failure.

Why Leak Detection is Becoming a Critical Part of AI Data Center Architecture
Air cooling was designed for a world of 8 to 12 kW racks, but that world no longer exists. Today’s AI training racks routinely draw more than 100 kW, with roadmaps pushing toward 250 kW and beyond, and no amount of moving air can pull that much heat out of that small a footprint. That’s why liquid cooling has moved from a niche technique to the backbone of AI infrastructure almost overnight, with liquid-cooled server deployments more than tripling in a single year. But as coolant has moved from the room’s perimeter deep into the rack itself, running through manifolds, cold plates, and dozens of wetted quick-disconnect points inches from live electronics, it has quietly changed the risk profile of the entire data center.

What do a celebrity’s house, art museum, and manufacturing plant have in common?
You may be thinking that there cannot be anything in common with these three places, but in fact, PTI has been in all three places installing RLE leak detection technology. Leak detection technology works by placing a small braided cord in areas where you want to detect liquids. That cord communicates or connects back to an RLE monitoring appliance and when any liquid touches the cord, the appliance will alarm and tell you exactly where the leak is located so you can remedy the situation immediately. The monitoring device can be set up to send alerts to you via text and email, so you still can respond quickly even if you’re not on site.

Water Leak Detection in Action
Sometimes, seconds can mean the difference between running a red light and stopping with room to spare. (And, hey, traffic violations can be pricey). And sometimes the stakes are much higher. Take, for instance, a water leak. Catching it early is the difference between the cost of a roll of paper towels and a massive water cleanup effort: new carpet, drywall, mold mitigation.

SNCF (French National Railway)
Operating large multi-site rail systems requires a mission critical solution where every site can be relied upon to perform at all times. With disperse locations the cost of operations is significant and unmonitored systems can hide potential problems until the moment of truth. The cost of losing power is measured in millions of Euros. As transportation services grew and IT systems expanded, data center technicians for France-based SNCF (French National Railway) realized the significance of preventing their reservations and ticketing networks from going offline. In 2000, the organization installed its first battery monitoring system to prevent an unplanned outage. After nearly five years of false alarms and struggling to manage their batteries effectively with two different battery monitoring solutions, the battery monitoring system was removed and evaluations of another system began.

Does the Type of Perforated Panel in Your Raised Floor Data Center Matter to You? It Should!
Data centers frequently use the space under their raised floors to deliver cooling throughout their facilities. Air is pushed into these underfloor spaces by perimeter computer room air conditioners (CRACs) or from high volume air handlers. Unfortunately, many raised floor data centers have shallow plenums and/or clutter under the floor. The result? High velocity horizontal […]

RLE Technologies Introduces Low Smoke Zero Halogen Leak Detection Sensing Cable
RLE Technologies announced today that it has added a new product to their leak detection portfolio of products: low smoke zero halogen leak detection sensing cable. RLE’s low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) cable responds to leaks in just the same way and just as quickly as the company’s orange leak detection sensing cables – water is detected and a signal is sent back to the leak detection controller, identifying the leak and sending notification to responsible parties immediately. In addition, LSZH cable is specifically formulated to release significantly less smoke and zero halogen upon combustion. In the event of a fire the smoke released by the LSZH cable is lower in quantity, less optically dense (easier to see through), and releases fewer toxic and corrosive gases than other leak detection cables. This makes exiting a space safer for employees and accessing the source of a fire easier for emergency personnel. These intrinsic characteristics make RLE’s LSZH cable an excellent fit for specialty installs and applications with limited ventilation including subway tunnels, nuclear power plants, aircraft, tanks, ships and submarines, and subsea or offshore installations.

Water Leak Detection Equipment Saving Data Centers
Water damage caused by leaks can cause serious damage over time if not treated. Water damage can cause all sorts of problems to data centers and mission critical facilities, and if not caught in time by water leak detectors, can cost these businesses millions of dollars worth of damage. Behind electrical failure, water leaks are the most common reasons for data loss. These are all things checked by building inspectors when people are purchasing or leasing a building for business purposes. This is why you’ll often see the most thorough building inspectors with water leakage detection equipment.
The Best Leak Detection Equipment for Mission-Critical Facilities
A data-center can’t afford a fluid leak of any kind. In fact, water leaks alone are the second most common cause of data loss, right behind electrical failure, of course. And while you may think that your data center is secure, a fluid leak could happen at any time and could come from anywhere. Water leaks, for instance, can come from a leaky pipe, the room next door or the room above yours. How do you protect your data from these possible fluid leaks? Just like you have electrical safeguards in place, you need a leak detection system that will prevent the worst case scenario. By learning about the various types of leak detection equipment, it will become much easier to find a leak before any damage is done.
